Open-weight models are now "good enough" for enterprise workloads

→ The NYT's line is simple: big enterprises are quietly moving production workloads onto open-weight models, and that's starting to squeeze frontier API pricing power. Not a lab benchmark story — a procurement story.

⚠ "Good enough" is doing a lot of work in that headline. Good enough for what? A support agent has different tolerances than a compliance workflow. The risk isn't the model swap, it's assuming last quarter's eval still holds after you make it.

✳ If you're pricing agent features against Claude or GPT API costs, model an open-weight fallback into the architecture now, not when a vendor repriced you into a corner.
